Up and Running:

Starting your business with growth in mind

By Tim Berry
Glitter and New Ideas at CES

The annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas is one of my favorite events, although it’s been a few years since I’ve been able to attend. I like it because it is the world hub of interesting new gadgets. It’s a mecca for entrepreneurs. Consumer electronics is mostly the playground of the very large manufacturing firms, but each of the big product areas leaves lots of gaps and niches for the innovative entrepreneur.

Steve King of Small Biz Labs posted today from CES about Cars as Mobile Computing Platforms:

I’m at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. One of the areas I’m spending time at is the automotive section of the show. MSNBC has a great article on CES and autos and Newsweek also covers cars in their article on CES.

Navigation and GPS systems are driving (bad pun intended) the growth of auto electronics. Auto electronics are going play a key role in the local Web and location-based services. Small businesses need to be aware of the growth of navigation systems and their impact on local commerce.

    Hey Tim,

It’s been a while but I just wanted to comment on your CES post. I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to these shows, but I can hardly help myself! After all, it’s almost what I would imagine the old World’s Fairs to be like…and how exciting is it to see what some of the most innovative thinkers have come up with?! Not to mention, like you said, the wealth of opportunity for entrepreneurs. I think these types of shows should be on every entrepreneur’s (not just consumer’s) radar. Yay technology! Woo!
